Title

Shearwater reconnaissance in the yacht, 'Petula': notebook

Shelfmark

MS. 15041/967

Summary

Softback notebook inscribed 'Channe [sic] Cruise Solent - Scilly 1948'; 4 black and white photographs.

The notebook is in Nicholson's hand and records birds seen (not just shearwaters), with dates and (often) times. It covers the cruise of 17-21 Sep 1948 and sailings of a few days earlier.

The photographs appear to have been taken on this trip; two feature Nicholson. Three are annotated on the back in Nicholson's hand; the dates given are Sep or Sep/Oct 1948. There are references to these photographs on the first page of the notebook and in H.G. Hasler's letter of 9 Oct 1948.

J.M. Fisher and P.A.D. Hollom were among those who accompanied Nicholson on cruises in 1948 and 1949.
