Summary

1. 'Descriptio nobilissime ciuitatis Londonie' by William Fitz-Stephen, beg. 'Inter nobiles vrbes orbis' (fol. 1), hence printed by Thomas Hearne in Leland's Itinerary, vol. viii. For other MSS. (of which MS. Douce 287 is one) see Stow's Survey of London, ed. C. L. Kings-ford (Oxford, 1907), ii. 387, and Hardy, Materials for British History, ii. 331.

2. A brief Latin chronicle of Britain to 1216, beg. 'Britannie insularum optima' (fol. 4v). At fol. 8 in another hand is a Latin letter from H[enricus], archbishop of Nazareth, to Bornucinus, papal chamberlain, concerning the defeat of the Christians near Gaza in 1244.

Custodial history

The original cover consisted of a 15th-cent. fragment of a Latin commentary on the book of Wisdom, prol. beg. 'Ad notularum sequencium euidenciam'. fols. iv and 1 have 'Ra. Bosvile', 'Virtus propter se', about 1600, perhaps indicative of ownership by sir Ralph Bosville of Bradbourn (1578-1650).
