Acquisition
Presented to the Bodleian by his son, John Ehrman, in 1978 through the Friends of the National Libraries.
Provenance
Fols. 1-272 written in 1469 (colophon); fols. 275-351 written around the same time by the same scribe and on the same paper; binding dated 1469.
'iohans fücht ze machen schaffet mich' (binding): not otherwise identified, but other bindings by Hans Stumpf were made for customers in Nördlingen and its area (see Binding above: also Augsburg, Universitätsbibl., Cod. III.1.2º 69; Cod. III.1.2º 139; Cod. III.1.2º 172; Cod. III.1.2º 175; Cod. III.1.2º 95; Cod. III.1.2º 141). An origin for the present manuscript in the same area is likely.
Karl Ritter von Kesaer (1781-1863): listed in the catalogue of his library at Vienna, 1859 (Thesaurus librorum germanicorum …, p. 1); his sale, 1864 (no. 17 in T. O. Weigel, Catalogue of old, rare and curious books ... (Leipzig, 1864); Ulrich-Dieter Oppitz, 'Handschriften Karl Ritter von Kesaers und ihr Verbleib', Zeitschrift für deutsches Altertum und deutsche Literatur 125 (1996), 404–410 (406, no. 3)).
Unidentified (French?) bookseller: cutting from a French-language catalogue on the front pastedown.
Albert Ehrman (1890–1969); with his lozenge-shaped armorial bookplate; Broxbourne ledger no. R 1413; his lozenge-shaped ‘AE’ ink stamp (inside back cover).
