"A booke of tenures as well of all the knights fees for lands holden of the honor of Clare as of the honors of Mandevile, Tutbury, Lisle and Leicester, parcell of the duchie of Lanc. within the counties of Essex, Herts and Midd., and within the office of the feodary of the sayd counties, collected and gathered as well out of the records remayninge in the Towre of London, as out of the records remayninge in the duchie courte in the custodie of the clarcke of the same courte, as appeareth within written. Also divers other notes and presidents concerninge the sayd office of feodary, likewise collected and gathered out of divers paper bookes and notes of Thomas Bedell, esquire, late feodary and bayliffe of the fraunchesies and liberties of the said duchie of Lancaster, by John Layton, gent. hir majesty's fermor of all the reliefes and fynes for alienacion and other casualties yeerlye happeninge within the said office of feodarye in the sayd counties, as likewise appeareth within wrytten"
