Summary
With additions and corrections in Browne Willis' own hand, and in that of T. Hearne.
The following note is written by Hearne on a fly-leaf at the beginning: "Mr. Willis's account of the mitred abbeys, with some of my corrections and additions. But alas! when I came to print this thing in Leland's Collectanea I found it so very defective that I was oblig'd to examin every thing anew, and to prepare it, as it should be, for the press. It was well recd. in the world, which being well known to Mr. Willis, in the year 1719 he put out a Grub Street edition of it, with very paultry additions, and the recommendation of one Wm. Wotton, a mad, debauched, irreligious clergyman (who absconds in Wales under another name tho' he hath a good parsonage in Buckinghamshire, where he was guilty of strange irregularities ****), for which Mr. Willis is much blamed, and is looked upon at least as a very weak man."
