Notes by Beckford on some leaves include (fol. 1) 'Purport of the long Story. Pandere res alta Terra & caligine mersas' (Vergil, Aeneid 6, 267), 1777, presumably intended for 'The long story' (see MS. Beckford c. 46), and (fols. 134-5) a list of books.
