A political tract 'Off the foundation off a state and the essentiall parts that Forme a Prince', beg. 'Their be three principal pillers' (fol. 6), preceded by a dedication to king Charles ii, signed 'Caesarea' [= 'Jersey'] and dated 'Jerseii, 20 Jan. 1649'.
This preface reveals that the author was a professional lawyer who left London with Charles i, held Ports-mouth for him, was wounded at Edgehill, and after a long imprisonment apart from his wife and children 'attended your Majestie the last yeare by sea towards England, from there returned into the Netherlands, and soe through France to your Ile of Jersey'. The occurrence on fol. i in a contemporary hand of 'Sir Christopher Luknarr' point to sir Christopher Lewknor, recorder of Chichester, as the probable author.
