Part of the first three Gospels in the Vulgate translation
Shelfmark
MS. Auct. D. 5. 3
Summary
Part of the first three Gospels in the Vulgate translation, containing from 'Eliacim: Eliacim autem genuit Azor' (Matth. i. 13) to 'latronibus blasphemat' (Luc. xxiii. 39). The Gospels divide at fols. 43, 67v, and have prologues. A fragment only of the first leaf, which contained Matth. i. 1-13, is left. The Ammonian sections occur in the margin.
Some Old English glosses (of about A.D. 1100?) occur on fols. 23, 25, 27, 29v and elsewhere. At fol. 43v occur notes from a liturgical service in an English hand of the time of the glosses: 'R[esponsorium] Nobilissimus. V[ersiculus] Digna. digni. R. Corde & anima [with musical notation] V. Ualde nam. R. Nata V. Corde.'
On fols. 44, 68 are two elaborate but not fine coloured capitals in blue, yellow, green and red, with interlaced bands and animal figures. The symbol for -us is always placed over the preceding letter: the Saxon g occurs twice on fol. 51v.
[I suggest that the MS. was executed in the zone of N. France. E.W.B.N.]
