Fine borders, initials. (Pächt and Alexander iii. 1103)

Coloured initials and borders (fols. 11, 13, 31, 123, etc.), some cut out (fols. 37, 135, 210, 233); so is the beginning of the canon.

Musical notation

Square notation on 13–4 staves of 4 red lines.

Binding

Blind-tooled, early 18th century.

Acquisition

Part of his third donation to the Bodleian, sent 28 June 1639.

Provenance

In the kalendar the feasts of St. Chad and St. Erkenwald are in red.

Births and obits of the Carew family, 1485–1510, added in the calendar, including the obit of Sir William Carew, 27 May 1501: i.e. Sir William Carew of Bury St Edmunds.

'Pertinet domine margarete Carew', fol. 267: probably Margaret (d. 1525), widow of Sir William Carew.

Birth of Francis Clovyle noted in the calendar, March 1: Francis Cloyvle (d. 1562) of West Hanningfield, the son of William Clovyle, who (William) married Mary, daughter of Sir William Carew (Visitations of Essex..., ed. W. C. Metcalfe (1878), p. 37).
