Summary
Darlington had considerable difficulty in finding a publisher for this article, which most thought too sweeping. Material comprises correspondence, with G. Orwell and editor of Polemic, which accepted the article. The magazine closed down before publication but the editors arranged for publication in The Nineteenth Century, 1947. Also includes request to reprint article in the American publication, New Leader.
Included here is a draft letter, Dec 1980, marked 'Not sent' to B. Crick about his biography of Orwell and Darlington's recollections of Orwell.
