Binding

Brown reversed calf over laminated pulpboard for Abp. Laud, 1637–1639.

Acquisition

Given to the Bodleian as part of his third donation, dispatched on 28 June 1639.

Provenance

Mainz, Charterhouse St Michael: MS. Laud Misc. 75 is composed of three different parts, one of which was supplemented in the Mainz Charterhouse, in the 15th century (part A). The list of contents on fol. 44v (quoted under C) Provenance), inserted at the Charterhouse in a hand of s. xv, is evidence that the book existed in its present form already at the time when the inscription was inserted; it was, however, larger then, with Homilies by Gregory the Great, the seven Canonical Epistles as well as Apocalypse preceding current item 1; there was probably also more text at the end.

William Laud, 1573–1645: his ex-libris inscription, dated 1638, at the lower margin of fol. 1r.
