Fine initials. By the Boucicaut Master and the Egerton Master. (Pächt and Alexander i. 642, pl. L)

Binding

16th century, late, or 17th century, French or Italian: pasteboards; light brown leather, tooled all in gilt with double lines forming a panel on each cover with floral corner-pieces, around a central wreath of thick, small leaves in an upright oval; spine also gilt (damaged); traces of two sets of brown fabric ties, lost. 192 135–138 c. 48 (book closed).

Edges gilt, gauffered (very worn), probably inherited from a previous binding along with the present front paste-down which bears an inscription dated 1500.

'Les quinze yoyes [sic]' (fol. 130v)

'Les cinq playes' similar to the vii Requestes (fol. 137)

The 'In Vigilia Mortuorum' (fol. 140)

There are some fine illuminations (in which Waagen detects a Flemish and a French artist, Treasures of Art in Great Britain (1854), iii. 73), borders, etc. The volume seems to belong to Northern France (Stt. Ivo of Chartres and Lupus (Leu) of Sens are in gold in the Calendar, and the former also is in the Litany). A leaf is lost after fol. 12.
