Illuminated capitals.

Binding

White leather on boards; clasps and title (under talc?) on side lost, 13th cent. (?) English work, with hump to protect the chain-clamp; there was once a large sheepskin cover over it

Acquisition

Presented by the dean and canons of Windsor in 1612: with library mark.

Provenance

Robertsbridge, Cistercian abbey: 'Liber sancte Marie de Ponte Roberti. Qui eum abstulerit aut uendiderit uel quolibet modo ab hac domo alienauerit uel quamlibet eius partem absciderit, sit Anathema. Maranatha. Amen,' 13th cent.

Half-erased entries on fol. i show that the volume was a cautio in some chest on Dec. 22, 1321, in the Cista Universitatis on March 16, 1323/4, and again on Feb. 1, 1332/3, probably at Oxford.

'Ego Johannes [de Grandison] Exoniensis episcopus nescio vbi est domus predicta. nec hunc librum abstuli. set modo legittimo adquisiui,' about 1350, see his hand at fols. 57v, 132v, etc.
