': the preface states that this Chronicle of France from the earliest times is 'descripte selon la lettre et lordonnance des Croniques de labbaye de monsieur saint Denis en France': the text is divided into books and chapters: the first chapter of the first book beg. 'Quatre cens et quatre ans avant que Rome feust fondee.'.
