Fine rounded bookhands by several scribes; fols. 87r-88v with additions in an Italian cursive hand

Coloured initials with penwork.

Binding

Sewn on five cords and bound in plain laid paper over pasteboards, 19th-century; the sewing become weak; the lower half of the spine covering missing

Acquisition

Sold by them at Sotheby's, 11 July 1978, lot 30, bought by the Bodleian.

Provenance

In a dedicatory inscription addressed to a high ecclesiastic, Domenico di Vicenza names himself as the author (fol. 76v), and states that he completed it in 1410 while living in Venice in the parish of San Giuliano, having begun it at Padua in the same year

Halliwell (later Halliwell-Phillipps), with a bookplate 'PRESENTED | TO THE | Plymouth Public ['Public' crossed through and changed to 'Proprietary'] Library, | [stamped in purple ink: 'CORNWALL SREET.' | BY | J. O. HALLIWELL, ESQ., F.S.A., | F.R.S., ETC, ETC. | .......' the last line inscribed 'No. 17.' (c.f. MS. Ital. e. 19).
