Seven- to twelve-line silhouette initials in red at the beginning of each book.

Elsewhere two- or three-line coloured red initials with simple ornament.

Laudian binding of tanned calf over pulpboard, 1638 × 1639

Acquisition

Part of his third donation to the Bodleian, 1639.

Provenance

Possibly made at the Cistercian monastery of Eberbach (Palmer, p. 296).

Ex libris of Eberbach, late 12th century or 13th century, fol. 1r.

Probably identifiable as f 15 in the Eberbach library catalogue of 1502 (Palmer, p. 272: 'Gotfridus de expeditione christiana pars prima Initium Prohemium'; cf. note regarding authorship on fol. 1r).
