Paper. Watermark dreiburg with six(?)-petalled flower on a rod of two lines.
Physical extent
ii (19th/20th century paper) + 7 + xxiv (18th(?)-century paper with 'Pro patria' watermark) + ii (19th/20th century paper) leaves. Fols. i-ii, 8-end are blank paper.
Hands
Cursive, with many loopless forms, by one hand.
Decoration
One 7-line initial in plain red.
Binding
Late 19th or early 20th century Bodleian binding of blue cloth over pasteboards; the spine with the shelfmark and ‘Speculum amatorum mundi – 1459.’ in gilt capitals.
Acquisition
Caspar Haugg (fl. 1875–1893), bookseller of Augsburg, Catalogue 69, no. 477; bought for 4 marks by the Bodleian Library; inscribed in pencil ‘Haugg Augsburg 1884’ (fol. 1r).
Provenance
Perhaps from the Carthusian monastery of St Salvator, but not apparently identifiable in their medieval library catalogue.
Not identifiable in the sale catalogue of Friedrich Gottlieb Julius von Bülow (1760–1831) (Bibliotheca Büloviana … Dritter Theil (Handschriften) …, 10 October 1836 and following days), unless bound with another text as lot 548, 'Speculum amatorum mundi. - Tract. de obedientia, humilitate etc.'.
