A Benedictine Sacramentary

MS. Canon. Liturg. 345

Summary

A Benedictine Sacramentary, perhaps written in the first half of the 12th cent. in Tuscany (Torpes of Pisa, Apr. 29, Mustiola of Chiusi, July 3, etc.), with an imperfect calendar (Apr.-Sept. only) and end. The Ordinary of the Mass begins on fol. 11, the Canon on fol. 14: the latter contains the ancient and unusual words 'tam uenerande natiuitatis quam beate passionis', on fol. 15v.

There is a peculiar 'Ordo uel denuntiatio' connected with the baptismal service (fol. 42), containing seven 'scrutinia' of the catechumens, the Nicene Creed in Greek and Latin (fols. 53, 53v), and the Apostles' Creed in a short old Roman form (fol. 57), with short expositions.

There are musical notes in parts. Fols. 180-1 are fragments of a 14th cent. law book.
