Summary
"Collected and sett downe by W. Smith, citezen of Norembergh," afterwards Rouge-dragon pursuivant at arms.
The list of mayors and sheriffs of Chester ends with the year 1585. At the beginning of the volume are the arms of the Norman earls, of the prince of Wales as earl of Chester, of the earl of Derby as steward, and earl of Leicester as chamberlain, and of the eight barons of the county, well executed in colours. A good coloured small view of Haulton is inserted in the course of the work. And at the end are 459 coloured coats of "armes in Cheshire," with the names of the families in alphabetical order; corresponding for the most part, but not entirely, with the series in King's Vale-royal. These are followed by 69 coats undescribed, the volume concluding with a page which bears the arms of Bostock (with twelve quarterings), of Swenter, and of Smith (with crest, and motto "Silentio et spe") marshalled with those of Altensteig.
