Summary
Miscellaneous papers, chiefly by John Aubrey, of which the chief items are:
Fol. 1. A nearly complete draught on parchment of a deed between Lewes Steuings of Braunton and Richard Lyell of Bishop's Teignton, both in Devon, about land at East Teignmouth, Feb. 24, 12 Charles II (1659/60, probably really 1660). This was formerly used as a cover for the loose papers forming the volume.
Fol. 3. A poem of six lines 'Vpon the state of Nature', by and in the hand of James Harington the author of Oceana.
Fol. 4.. '[The] Countrey Revell, or the Revell of Aldford [i.e. Christian Malford, co. Wilts]', a comedy by and in the hand of John Aubrey. This is chiefly written on fols. 6-24 of some Interrogatories and depositions administered to or made by Samuel Toovey, an attorney, in the matter of a trial of Edward Smith (v) William and Mary Griffith and Thomas Gayley, in 1635, in which Roger Aubrey was concerned.
Fol. 25. A list of 'The Writers of the R[oyal] Society' and their works, by J. Aubrey, April 26, 1682: followed by 'An alphabeticall Catalogue of the Fellowes of the Royall Societie' of about the same date, also by J. Aubrey (fol. 29).
Fols. 54, 75. Personal papers and notes of John Aubrey, many of which are printed in Aubrey's Brief Lives, ed. Clark (1898), ii. 325-30, and elsewhere in that book.
