114 leaves The edges lightly retrimmed and stained yellow.

Hands

One expert English protogothic bookhand, the same as MS 4.

Decoration

As for MS 4, plain initials except for f. 85, a 12-line blue P on a pink ground edged with green, enclosing green, blue, white and gold foliage on orange.

Binding

Late medieval, as for MS 4, including the marks of chain-staples. A rust-hole in the upper margin of f. 114 does not correspond to anything on the rear board.

Provenance

As for MS 4. On the front pastedown, ‘Liber domus scolarium de Merton’ in Oxon’ ex dono Magistri Walteri Rammesbury inceptoris theologie, precentoris in ecclesia Herefordensi ac quondam prefate domus consocii, cuius anime propicietur Deus [et ... in purgatorio erased] existencium. Oretis igitur pro &c.’, in the same hand as the corresponding inscription in MS 4; ‘N. 1. 5. Art:’, s. xvii, canc. and replaced with ‘A. 2. 5’ in purple and ‘(V)’ in red; the College bookplate.

At the head of f. 1 is the James no. ‘26’ (recte 252), s. xvii in. ‘5’ is inked on the foredge.
