70 leaves (ii + 68) The edges heavily retrimmed affecting marginalia, and spattered with red.
Hands
A single anglicana hand.
Decoration
On fol. 1 is a blue initial flourished in red; otherwise only red paraphs.
Binding
Standard Merton s. xvii, sewn on four bands; formerly chained from the usual position. The first and last leaves were pastedowns in an earlier binding. Near the foot of fol. 67 are the marks of the large brass chain-staple. There were once two brass pins at the back.
Provenance
At the head of fol. iiv is ‘Liber domus de Mertone ex dono M. Roberti Wyghte anno Domini M. CCCC lxviii’. For Wyght, see MS 20.
At the head of fol. 1 is the James no. ‘192’, s. xvii in. Inside the front board is a slip of paper with titles and ‘F. 6. 9’ (canc.), s. xvii, and ‘O. 8. 10. Art:’, canc. and replaced with ‘H. 1. 13 (CXCV)’ in red; the College bookplate.
