The scribe of MS 191: a single small English early gothic bookhand.
Decoration
As MS 191: roman numerals and marginalia in red. Small plain red or blue initials in the capitula; running heads in red and blue capitals.
Binding
Standard Merton s. xvii; sewn on four bands; formerly chained from the usual position. Fols. i-iii and 163–5 are paper binding leaves, the two outermost from the same printed book as in MS 13.
Provenance
The second volume of three, MS 191 (q. v.) being the first.
fol. ivv: ‘In isto libro continentur secunda et 3ªpars pantheologi / Ex dono magistri Iohannis Gygur nuper custodis istius Collegii de Merton. Oretis pro eo.’
Seen at Merton by John Bale (Appendix C, no. 34).
Inside the front board is a title and a slip of paper with ‘G. 2, 6’ and ‘O. 8. 7. Art:’ (s. xvii), replaced with ‘M. 1. 7 (CXCII)’ in red; the College bookplate.
At the head of fol. 1 is the James no. ‘138’, s. xvii in. ‘7’ is inked on the foredge.
