174 leaves (i + 173) the edges retrimmed with loss of marginalia and stained yellow
Binding
s. xv, heavily restored by Maltby: wide-bevelled oak boards with slightly projecting squares, now bared and rebacked with modern vellum; sewn on four bands. Formerly two straps from shallow recesses in the front board to catches at the rear. fol. 1 was once pasted down in a binding with much iron furniture, possibly including corner-bosses and a chain-staple in the middle of the foot. Near the foot of the rear board are the marks of the large brass chain-staple. There is no corresponding mark on fol. 173v.

At the head of fol. 14, s. xv, ‘Liber domus scolarium de Merton in Oxon’ ex legato Magistri Ioh’ Raynham sacre pagine professoris et quondam socii eiusdem domus cuius anime propicietur Deus Amen.’ For Reynham, see MS 18.
At the head of fol. 1 is the James no. ‘253’ (recte 255), s. xvii in. ‘3’ is inked on the foredge. On fol. i is a sheet of paper with contents, s. xvii, and ‘N. 3. 3. Art:’, canc. and replaced with ‘A. 3. 3 (XXIX)’ in red.
