189 leaves (vi + 183) The edges retrimmed, affecting marginalia, and spattered with red.
Hands
A single small French gothic rotunda bookhand.
Decoration
On fol. 1 a 5-line A in colours and gold, with curling vine-leaf foliage and 2-sided border; a ?cat sits on the upper limb (cropped by the binder); red and blue initials with 1-sided borders of the same, flourished in red and violet; red initials flourished in violet, blue initials flourished in red; red or blue paraphs, red highlighting and underlining.
Binding
Standard Merton s. xvii, sewn on four bands; formerly chained from the usual position. Fols. i-iii and 181–3 are paper binding-leaves, the two outermost from the same printed book as in MS 45. On the first parchment leaves are the marks of an iron chain-staple at the foredge, near the foot.
Provenance
Probably made in Paris. It is not known when it entered the College prior to s. xvii.
Inside the front board is a sheet of paper with a table of contents and ‘F. 3, 9’ (canc.), s. xvii, and modern ‘H. 1. 4 (CXLVII)’ in red; the College bookplate.
