Support

Physical extent

149 leaves (ii + 147) The edges savagely retrimmed, sometimes affecting text at the foredge, and spattered with red. Fols. 146–7 are of thick, stiff parchment.

Binding

Standard Merton s. xvii, sewn on four bands; formerly chained from the usual position. Fols. 90 and 147 were pastedowns in different earlier bindings.

Provenance

There is no evidence that the book was at the College prior to s. xvii in.

A single-line inscription has been erased from f. i: ‘Caucio s. l liberand’ pro vi s. viii d. de 5 ff’.

On f. 90, erased, is ‘Pignus fratris G. de Stangraue pro [cropped]’. The place is Stonegrave (Yorks., N. Riding).

At the head of f. iiv is ‘Corruptorium Sancti Thome cum multis contentis aliis prec’ xiii s. iiii d.’, s. xiv.

This is repeated, in almost the same words, at the head of f. ii, s. xv.

At the foredge of f. 91 is the mark of a single strap.

Inside the front board is a sheet of paper with a table of contents and ‘D. 4, 14’ (canc.), s. xvii, and ‘P. 4. 18. Art:’, canc. and replaced with ‘C. 1. 17’ and ‘E. 1. 3’ in red, both canc. and replaced with ‘P. 1. 7’, and ‘No. 267’ in pencil; the College bookplate, sideways. ‘18’ is inked on the foredge.
