293 leaves (i + 292)The edges heavily retrimmed, affecting running heads and the border on fol. 1, spattered with red.

Hands

A single professional French gothic rotunda bookhand of university type.

Decoration

On fol. 1 is a 10-line initial M in pink, blue and gold, on a square patterned ground, enclosing the Crucifixion flanked by a nimbed saint with a book, and a kneeling clerk catching the blood in a lidded bowl; full border with running hounds, rabbit, hare and stag . Large and handsome red and blue initials with 1-sided borders; red or blue initials flourished in the other colour; red or blue paraphs; red highlighting and underlining; running heads in capitals of the colours.

Binding

s. xix ex., doubtless replacing one of s. xvii: bare chamfered oak boards with projecting squares, backed with vellum; sewn on five bands; fols. i and 292 are blank paper binding leaves.

Provenance

Probably made in Paris.

It is not known when it entered the College prior to s. xvii. On fol. ivis a sheet of paper with ‘N. 7. 4’ (s. ?xvii), canc. and replaced with ‘I. 3. 4 (CXIX)’ in red; the College bookplate. ‘4’ is inked on the foredge.
