171 leaves (v + 166) The edges retrimmed and spattered with red.
Hands
Written in small neat anglicana-secretary hands: fols. 1–134v, 136–60 near the foot of col. a, after which a scribe writing anglicana formata takes over; the original hand reappears on fol. 161v.
Decoration
Large red and blue initials flourished in red and with partial borders in the colours; blue initials flourished in red; art. 3 red paraphs, highlighting and underlining.
Binding
Standard Merton s. xvii; sewn on six bands; formerly chained from the usual position. The outermost leaves were formerly pastedowns. Near the foot of fol. 166 is the mark of the large iron chain-staple.
Provenance
At the head of fol. vvis ‘Liber domus de Mertone ex dono magistri Hamondi Haydok incathenatus in libraria anno Domini M. CCCC. lxviii’. For Hammond Haydok see MS 16.
Inside the front board is a sheet of paper with ‘D. 5, 11’ (canc.) and a table of contents, s. xvii, and ‘O. 1. 6. Art:’, canc. and replaced with ‘L. 2. 6 (CXII)’ in red; the College bookplate. ‘6’ is inked on the foredge.
