473 leaves (iv + 469) The edges retrimmed and spattered with red. Contemporary foliation in arabic numerals.
Hands
A proficient, rather bold anglicana hand.
Decoration
Blue initials flourished in red.
Binding
s. xix, full calf, rebacked. fols. i-ii, 467–9 are paper binding leaves. The previous binding was presumably standard Merton s. xvii. Faint rust marks on f. 466v may be from the large iron chain-staple.
Provenance
Made in England, presumably for a Franciscan community.
On f. ivv ‘Liber domus scolarium de Mertone ex dono magistri Henrici Seuer sacre pagine professoris ac custodis eiusdem incathenatus in libraria ad communem usum ibidem studere uolencium anno Domini M. CCCC lxviii.’ For Sever, see above, MS 6.
Above is ‘B lier .20.us’ in the usual hand (see above, MS 60). Also ‘P. 3. 3. Art:’, s. xvii. Inside the front board is the College bookplate with ‘P. 3. 3’, canc. and replaced with ‘H. 2. 3 (CCXXXVI)’ in red.
