Hands
Large, loose anglicana hands.
Decoration
Blue initials flourished in red; red or blue paraphs.
Binding
Standard Merton s. xvii; sewn on seven bands; formerly chained from the usual position. An earlier binding had two straps, and possibly the large iron chain-staple at the rear.
Provenance
At the head of fol. ivis ‘Liber Hamundi Haydok ex empcione’. At the head of fol. iivis ‘Liber domus scolarium de Mertone ex dono magistri Hamundi Haydok incathenatus in libraria anno Domini M. CCCC. LXVIII.’ For Hammond Haydok, see MS 16.
At the head of fol. 4 is the James no. ‘195’, s. xvii in. (also in MS 252). Inside the front board is pasted a sheet of paper with a table of contents, s. xvii, ‘O. 2. 1. Art:’, canc. and replaced with ‘N. 6. 1. Art:’, s. xvii, the second canc. and replaced with ‘K. 2. 1 (LXVII)’, in red. ‘1’ is inked on the foredge.
