Physical extent
i+202+i leaves (mistakenly counted in the past as 198)
Hands
Produced by three anonymous scribes A (ff. 13–82), B (ff. 1–8, 83–202), and C (ff. 9–12). There is no evidence of direct collaboration among them.
Decoration
Ornamented headpieces drawn in red ink on ff. 1r, 13r, 83r, and 155r.
Binding
Binding (probably eighteenth-century) of marbled paper over pasteboard. The endpapers and pastedowns contain no watermarks.
Acquisition
Bequeathed by Sir George Wheler (1651–1724), who acquired it during his journey to Greece (1675–1676).
Provenance
There are two notes of ownership: Ἐκ τῶν τοῦ Δενώρι Ἀντωνίου ἱερέωςon f. 2r infra and Ἰωάννου ἱερέως Δακύπρουon f. 13r supra. The Italian surnames De Nori and Da Cipro suggest that the manuscript was once in Cyprus.
An entry in the lower margin of f. 202r records a large delivery of cheese on 5 and 7 June 1523: Εἰς ͵αφκγ´ μινὶ ἰουν ίῳ εἰς τὰς ε´ ὑπίγα ἐγὼ ὁ ΚοσταςΧαιρετις τοῦ ἀφέντι μοῦ | τοῦ Κατερὶ τιρὴν κομάτια η´, λυτρες ρη´. | Ἀκόμα εἰς τὰς ζ´ τοῦ μινὸς θυλάκην α´, μιζίθραν λύτρες οβ´, ὅλα τοῦ Νικολ άου etc.
A single untrained hand has written four short entries, sketched a bird, and drawn two pieces of ornament on f. 82v. The most significant of the entries reads: Τῶ τιμοωτ άτῳ καὶ εὐλαβεστάτῳκαὶ θεοφιλεστάτ ῳ ἐν ἱερομοναχοῖς | καὶ πνευνατικὶς πατράσην ἡμῶν κυρίω Ἰωακὴμ ἐξ αιμοῦ | ἱερέ ως παπᾶ Διμιτρίου τοῦ Σηνίδου μετάνοιαν αἱδαφιαίανἀποναίμο | τὶ σὶ μεγήστη ἁγιωσίνι καὶ σὴν πάσις ἐν Χ ριστὼ ὑμῶν| ἁδελφότοιτος γεινοσκαι γοῦν π άτερ ἅγιαι ὅτι. At the bottom of the same page, another hand has written Βασιλευς υπαρχῶν ου ρανοῦ. Ἐτοῦ⟨το⟩ τὸ χαρ|τὴν ενε τοῦ Μιχελι τοῦ μ οναχου. I do not think that this is an actual ownership note.
