Summary
A part-book in a set of 5, ii + 91 leaves. There is approximate agreement in content, and the books are indexed. In addition to music also found in the folio Service books MSS. Mus. c. 46-47, the set includes services by Peter Fussell, Bernard Gates, Charles King (in C) and Rogers (Evening Service in A minor, services in F). In addition to Anthems also found in MS. Mus. c. 50 are five by Alcock, Battishill's 'Call to remebrance', six by P. Hayes, one by W. Hayes, three by James Kent, C. King's 'Rejoice in the Lord' and three by Tye. These were copied during the latter half of the 18th cent. and completed by P. Hayes, who notes payment by the bursar from 1781 (MS. Mus. d. 165, p. 158). 19th-cent. hands used up space as in the set 'no. 2' (MSS. Mus. d. 156, etc.), for music by Batten (MS. Mus. d. 165), Handel and George Elvey. In addition William Jacobs copied music by Mozart in MS. Mus. d. 165, 1835, and another hand copied music by Crotch, Handel, Mozart, Haydn and Sir John Andrew Stevenson in MSS. Mus. d. 160 and 163. The last piece added in the set is a pencil copy by George Beckwith, clerk, of Tallis's 'Come Holy Ghost', dated 1856.

Calf binding, blind fillet, carefully repaired though sections were bound upside down. Lettered in gold on red labels, 'Chants. New College Chapel', 18th cent. Each volume in numbered in ink 'No. 1'.
